Crohn's Disease?

What is Crohn's Disease? Crohn's Disease is a chronic inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal tract that typically involves the distal portion of the ileum (or small bowel) and is characterized by cramping and diarrhea. This is considered an Autoimmunity disorder; “the self-attacking-self response”) causing the inflammation, cramping, swelling, ulceration, bleeding, pain, diarrhea or constipation, fatigue, and numerous other symptoms. It is my belief that only someone with an IBS can truly understand the pain; I'd rather give birth then to deal with this disease.

I have since learned after 30 years of battling this disease, that there are other IBD's; like  Colitis, Ulcerative Colitis, Diverticulitis, to name a few. So, what is the treatment options? Most doctors follow the money-makers: tests, drugs, and surgeries. When severity strikes, they will attempt to “turn off” the self-attacking-self response by “shutting down” the body’s defense system altogether with immune suppressing drugs which heal nothing, and leave an open door for multiple diseases and disorders to take root in the body.

If there were a way to eliminate IBD and restore the bodies immune system I believe it would put about 75% of specialists and pharmaceuticals out of business. What would happen to our weak economy then? It seems to me, that our government flourishes off everyone being sick.

I made a commitment that as I learn I would share with my brothers and sisters; my knowledge on how I to maintain a healthy body. Our bodies are a gift from God. We need to cherish them!

I also want to educate people about Crohn's and other health issues.  I am determined to make it less of a tabooed subject as well. Treating the symptoms rather than treating the actual disease is causing gluttony of side effects for many people, which may actually be exacerbating the illness itself for some.

What is the result? More medications are prescribed to counteract the newly acquired symptoms from the originally prescribed medication. It simplifies the previous statement; by saying this is placing a bandage over the original Band-Aid. I wonder if that is God’s plan. Just keep us drugged up; before we try a natural approach first. Believe me, I love my doctors. I have team of them. And we all work together and they all know what supplements I take. Some of my doctors don’t agree, but I am okay with their opinion. They still believe in me and respect my ideas for my optimum health. I know with balanced diet, exerciser, sleep, and life style we can be healthier.

All of which is very important to everyone’s health as well as a Cohn's patient. I have learned that an illness is an imbalance of the whole person, not an isolated event. Patients can be empowered to heal themselves, through knowledge. The greatest healing force is the patient-healer relationship: the unconditional power of love.

Healers teach best by example. Could it be God has given me the insight to teach about health and wellness? Could it be that the Lord wants to use my daily challenges to wake up his children? (I will write about this later.) Is he using me as a vessel to get the word out; to cherish our bodies, feed them properly, and educate yourself? I don’t have the answers, but I do know: I love you all, whether I know you personally or not. You are my brothers and sisters through Christ! I never want anyone to experience what I have been through. There is hope! And so I am following God’s vision…..
